Intro to Marketing
The Kent Transition Center programs so many families know and love are now part of Kent Career Tech Center as our Intro to Career Technical Education (CTE) Programs.
In these year-long courses, students learn what it means to be successful employees and gain valuable skills they can use in work and life. Like our traditional programs, students learn in the classroom and then apply their knowledge through hands-on projects in our labs. Small class sizes, plenty of support and a just-right pace help students thrive and prepare for life after high school.
Following a successful year, students have a selection of opportunities for their next step based on their needs and goals.
If working with people, products and money sounds exciting to you, explore the world of retail and marketing.
Meet the Instructors
Kyle Retan
Hello! My name is Kyle Retan and I am the Instructor for the Intro to Business Marketing program. I am excited to be starting my 8th year here at the ISD. One of the best parts about working here is that while students are learning valuable skills to help them get great jobs, they are also having fun!
I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education, always thinking I would be an elementary teacher. My first job was working at Wyoming Junior High. Once I spent time in the classroom with older students, I was hooked! I think one of the best things about working with high school students is that they get my jokes!
To put myself through college I worked at a local health club. I started out part-time and worked up to management. This job allowed me to gain a wide range of skills and experience the Business Marketing and Retail sector. More recently, my husband and I have started a resale business. I wanted to better understand the online business market of selling products. I could not think of a better way than to start my own business!
I have an associate's degree from Grand Rapids Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Education from Grand Valley State University. I am pursuing my Master in Urban Education from Davenport University, with an emphasis in Business, Marketing, Management and Technology.
My husband, Eric is a math teacher. Our kids keep us very busy as they are all involved in many activities. We enjoy our summers together and travel as much as possible. Anywhere we can hike or be around water is my favorite!
